In Genesis 3:17-18 in the King James Version of the Bible, God is speaking to Adam after he had eaten the forbidden fruit. God tells Adam that because he listened to his wife and ate from the tree, the ground is now cursed because of him. He tells Adam that he will toil and struggle to bring forth food from the ground for the rest of his life. Thorns and thistles will also grow, making it difficult for Adam to cultivate the land.
Additionally, God tells Adam that he will eat the herb of the field and work for his sustenance. This punishment reflects the consequence of Adam’s disobedience and betrayal of God’s command. The story of Adam and Eve teaches believers about the consequences of sin and the importance of obedience to God’s laws.
