In Romans 3:9-20, the apostle Paul addresses the universal sinfulness of humanity. He starts by stating that both Jews and Gentiles are under the power of sin and are accountable before God. Paul quotes numerous Old Testament scriptures to make his point that no one is righteous, not even one. He emphasizes that all have sinned and fallen short of God’s standard of righteousness.

Paul argues that the Law does not justify anyone but rather exposes our sinfulness. He explains that the purpose of the Law was to make people aware of their sinfulness and in need of a Savior. He concludes that no one can be justified by following the Law, as it only serves to condemn us.

Ultimately, Paul’s message in Romans 3:9-20 is that all people are sinners in need of God’s grace and mercy. He lays the foundation for his later discussion on justification by faith in Jesus Christ, who is the only one who can save us from our sins.
