Quetzalcoatlus is a genus of pterosaur that lived approximately 68 to 66 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous Period. It is one of the largest known flying animals of all time, with a wingspan of up to 36 feet and weighing an estimated 440 pounds. Quetzalcoatlus likely used its large wings to soar through the skies, much like modern-day albatrosses.

Despite its massive size, Quetzalcoatlus was a skilled flyer, capable of gliding for long distances and possibly even crossing oceans. Its diet likely consisted of small animals, which it would snatch up with its sharp beak while in flight. The name Quetzalcoatlus is derived from the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, a feathered serpent deity associated with wind and air.

This incredible creature has fascinated scientists and paleontologists since its discovery, shedding light on the diversity and adaptability of prehistoric flying reptiles. The remains of Quetzalcoatlus have been found in North America, specifically in Texas and South Dakota, providing valuable insights into the ancient ecosystems of the region. Despite going extinct along with the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous Period, Quetzalcoatlus continues to capture the imagination of people around the world as one of the largest and most awe-inspiring creatures to ever take to the skies.
