Aretha Franklin was an iconic American singer, songwriter, and musician known as the “Queen of Soul.” She was born on March 25, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. Franklin began her career singing gospel music at her father’s church and quickly gained recognition for her powerful voice and emotional performances.

Throughout her career, Franklin released numerous hit songs, including “Respect,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” and “Think.” She won a total of 18 Grammy Awards and was the first female performer to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Franklin’s influence on music was profound, as she inspired countless artists with her soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics.

Beyond her musical achievements, Franklin was also a prominent civil rights activist and philanthropist. She used her platform to advocate for social justice and equality, and performed at numerous events in support of the Civil Rights Movement. Aretha Franklin passed away on August 16, 2018, but her legacy continues to inspire and uplift listeners around the world.
