The puffin, also known as the “clown of the sea,” is a charming and charismatic seabird that captivates people with its colorful appearance and comical antics. These small birds are instantly recognizable by their distinctive orange bill, which becomes brighter during the breeding season. Puffins are skilled divers and can swim underwater to catch their prey, mainly fish like sand eels and herring. They use their wings to “fly” underwater, propelling themselves with quick flaps and glides. Puffins are also highly social creatures, often nesting in large colonies on cliffs or rocky islands. They form strong bonds with their mates, returning to the same nesting site year after year. Watching puffins interact with each other, with their quirky waddling gait and humorous interactions, is a delight for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts alike. These endearing birds remind us of the wonders of the natural world and the joy of observing wildlife in its natural habitat.
