However, on the day of the wedding, a giant helmet falls from the sky and kills Manfred’s son. This event sets off a chain of supernatural occurrences within the castle, including mysterious disappearances, ghostly apparitions, and secret passages.
As Manfred tries to deal with these events and maintain control over the castle, he becomes increasingly desperate and irrational. He ultimately discovers a dark secret about his family’s past that leads to the downfall of the castle and his own demise.
“The Castle of Otranto” is considered one of the first Gothic novels and has had a significant influence on the genre. It combines elements of romance, horror, and mystery to create a chilling and captivating story that continues to captivate readers to this day.
