In Genesis 37:28, it tells the story of Joseph being sold by his brothers. Jealous of his father’s favoritism towards Joseph and his dreams of greatness, his brothers conspired to harm him. They first planned to kill him but instead decided to sell him to a group of passing Ishmaelites for 20 pieces of silver. These Ishmaelites then brought Joseph to Egypt where he was sold to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh.
This act of betrayal by Joseph’s own brothers is a prime example of the dangers of jealousy and resentment. It led to Joseph being separated from his family, falsely accused, and imprisoned in Egypt. Despite these hardships, Joseph’s faith in God never wavered, and he eventually rose to a position of power in Egypt. This story serves as a reminder of the importance of staying strong in faith even when facing adversity and betrayal. It teaches us the power of forgiveness and redemption, as Joseph eventually forgave his brothers and reunited with his family.
