In Genesis 30:31-32 in the King James Version, Laban speaks to Jacob saying, “What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me any thing: if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock: I will pass through all thy flock today, removing from thence all the speckled and spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my hire.”

In these verses, Jacob proposes a deal to Laban regarding his wages for tending to the flocks. Jacob suggests that he will take all the speckled and spotted animals as his payment. Laban agrees to this arrangement, but later tries to cheat Jacob by removing all the speckled and spotted animals from the flock. However, Jacob uses cunning methods to ensure that he still receives his fair share of the flock. These verses demonstrate Jacob’s cleverness and resourcefulness in dealing with Laban, who was known to be deceitful.
