In the opening verses of Romans 1:1-7, the apostle Paul introduces himself as a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God. He goes on to express his desire to visit the church in Rome, whom he refers to as beloved and saints. Paul emphasizes his eagerness to share the message of salvation with them, for he believes the gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.

Paul also touches on the faith of the Roman Christians, acknowledging their reputation for their steadfast belief and commitment to Jesus Christ. He commends them for their witness to the world, praising their faith that is known throughout all the world. This passage serves as an introduction to the themes of faith, salvation, and the power of the gospel that will be further developed throughout the book of Romans. Paul’s words remind us of the importance of believing in the gospel and living out our faith in a way that shines the light of Christ to those around us.
