And when Jacob saw them, he said, “This is God’s host.” And he called the name of that place Mahanaim. Jacob had left his home and was now returning with his family, servants, and possessions. As he approached the land of Canaan, he saw angels of God, and he recognized that he was in the presence of God’s army. This encounter reaffirmed Jacob’s faith and gave him courage as he faced the challenges ahead. The name Mahanaim means “two camps,” symbolizing the union of Jacob’s camp with the camp of the angels. This divine encounter marked a significant moment in Jacob’s life as he prepared to reunite with his estranged brother Esau.
