Genesis gift exchange instructions 32:19-20

And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him. And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept of me.

In these verses from the book of Genesis, Jacob is preparing to meet his brother Esau after years of separation. He sends gifts ahead as a peace offering, hoping to reconcile with him. Jacob’s fear and uncertainty about how Esau will receive him are evident in his instructions to his servants. Despite his misdeeds in the past, Jacob shows humility and a desire for reconciliation with his brother.

This passage highlights the importance of seeking forgiveness and making amends with those we have wronged. It also demonstrates the power of humility in relationships, as Jacob puts aside his pride in order to seek peace with Esau. As we strive to maintain healthy relationships with others, may we learn from Jacob’s example and be willing to humble ourselves for the sake of reconciliation.
