In Genesis 4:5-6, we see the story of Cain and Abel. They both brought an offering to the Lord, but God looked with favor upon Abel’s offering of the firstborn of his flock and their fat, while He did not look favorably upon Cain’s offering of fruits from the ground. This angered Cain, and his countenance fell. God then asked Cain why he was angry and told him that if he did what was right, he would be accepted, but if he did not, sin was crouching at the door, ready to pounce. These verses show the importance of having a heart that is right before God and doing what is pleasing to Him. It also warns us of the consequences of allowing anger and jealousy to take root in our hearts. Ultimately, it reminds us of the need to strive for righteousness and humility in our relationship with God.
