And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph. The brothers had come to Egypt to buy food during the famine, but they didn’t know that the man they were dealing with was their own brother Joseph, whom they had sold into slavery years earlier. When Joseph saw Benjamin, his youngest brother, he was overcome with emotion and had to retreat to his chamber to weep. Finally, he composed himself and ordered a feast to be prepared for his brothers. The brothers were filled with fear and confusion, unsure of what was happening. Little did they know, this was just the beginning of Joseph’s plan to test their character and ultimately reveal his true identity to them. This chapter highlights the power of forgiveness and reconciliation, as Joseph takes the first step towards restoring his relationship with his family.
