And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying, Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead. Abraham’s wife Sarah had passed away, and he was seeking a place to bury her. Ephron, a Hittite, offered Abraham a field with a cave for burial. Despite Ephron’s initial insistence on giving the land to him for free, Abraham insisted on buying the land at full price. This act exemplifies Abraham’s integrity and faithfulness to God’s promises. Ultimately, Abraham purchased the land and buried his beloved wife Sarah there, marking the beginning of the possession of the promised land by his descendants. This passage serves as a reminder of the importance of honoring our loved ones in death and being faithful to our commitments.
