“Long Distance Call”
Samantha sat by the phone anxiously waiting for it to ring. It had been months since she had seen or heard from her long-distance boyfriend, Alex. The last time they had spoken, he had promised to call her as soon as he arrived in his new city for work, but that was weeks ago. Samantha couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that had settled in the pit of her stomach.
Finally, the phone rang, and Samantha’s heart leaped into her throat. She answered quickly, her voice trembling with emotion. On the other end of the line was Alex, his voice tired but filled with love. He apologized profusely for not calling sooner, explaining that he had been caught up in the demands of his new job. Samantha listened, her heart breaking with every word he spoke.
As they talked, Samantha realized how much she had missed him and how much she still loved him. Despite the distance and the time apart, their connection was still strong. They promised each other to make more of an effort to stay in touch and to visit each other as soon as possible.
The call ended with a bittersweet goodbye, but Samantha felt grateful for the chance to hear Alex’s voice once again. The distance may have been great, but their love for each other was even greater.
