In Numbers 22:37-41, the story of Balaam and his talking donkey unfolds. As Balaam travels to meet King Balak, who wants him to curse the Israelites, his donkey sees an angel blocking the path and refuses to move forward. Balaam, unable to see the angel, becomes frustrated with his donkey and beats her. Finally, God allows the donkey to speak to Balaam, asking why he is being mistreated. Balaam’s eyes are then opened to see the angel and he humbly submits to God’s will. As Balaam meets with King Balak, he reveals that he can only speak the words that God puts in his mouth, thwarting the king’s plans. This story serves as a reminder of God’s power and sovereignty, showing that even a donkey can be used by God to carry out His purposes. It also showcases the importance of humbly submitting to God’s will, even when it goes against our own desires.
