After a long day at school, Mary sat on the front porch steps, eagerly waiting for her dad to come home. The sun was setting, casting a warm orange glow over the neighborhood. Mary’s heart raced with anticipation as she watched cars pass by, hoping each one would be her dad’s car.

She remembered how her dad always greeted her with a smile and a hug, asking about her day and listening intently to her stories. He was her rock, her biggest supporter, and her hero.

As the minutes turned into hours, Mary’s excitement began to wane and worry crept in. Where was he? Did something happen?

Just as she was about to give up hope, she saw headlights turning onto their street. Her dad’s car finally pulled into the driveway, and Mary’s face lit up with joy and relief. She ran into his arms as he stepped out of the car, feeling the warmth of his embrace and hearing him say, “I’m sorry I’m late, sweetheart. I missed you too.”
