And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father’s brother, and that he was Rebekah’s son, and she ran and told her father. Her father ran to meet him, and he hugged him and kissed him, and brought him to his house. Jacob told Laban all these things, and Laban said to him, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh.” And he stayed with him a month.
Jacob loved Rachel, and he agreed to work for Laban for seven years in exchange for Rachel’s hand in marriage. But when the time came for him to marry her, Laban deceived Jacob by giving him his older daughter Leah instead. Jacob was angry but agreed to work another seven years for Rachel.
This passage from Genesis shows the deceitfulness of Laban and the loyalty of Jacob towards Rachel. It also demonstrates the importance of family ties and the willingness to work hard for love.
