And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the Lord: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.

In Genesis 29:35, we see the birth of Judah, the fourth son of Leah and Jacob. The name Judah means “praise,” and Leah acknowledged the Lord’s goodness and faithfulness in blessing her with another son. This act of naming her child was not done lightly, but with a heart full of gratitude towards God.

The birth of Judah was significant in the lineage of Jesus Christ, as Judah was one of the twelve sons of Jacob who would later become the twelve tribes of Israel. Judah’s descendants would go on to be a part of the royal line that would lead to the birth of the Messiah.

Leah’s acknowledgment and praise of the Lord through naming her son Judah serves as a reminder to us all to recognize and give thanks for the blessings that come from God. Just as Leah praised the Lord for the birth of Judah, may we also remember to praise Him for the good things He has done in our lives.
