When Jacob saw his son Joseph’s coat covered in blood, he immediately assumed that a wild beast had killed him. Jacob mourned deeply for his son, refusing to be comforted by his other sons. He tore his clothes in despair and lamented the loss of Joseph. All his children and daughters tried to console him, but Jacob refused to be comforted, saying that he would go to the grave mourning for his son. Throughout the land, people mourned with Jacob, as he mourned for Joseph. Meanwhile, the Midianites had sold Joseph to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard. Despite his fate at the hands of his brothers, Joseph’s story was far from over, as he would rise to become a powerful and influential figure in Egypt.
